Scholarship

  • Overview

Through being collegiate women, we have already shown a desire to further our learning, and Gamma Phi Beta proves to be no exception to the pursuit as it pushes each one of its members to achieve their highest excellence.

Our founders were pioneering women whose desires for friendship and sharing as they pursued academic achievement brought them together. These are the reasons why scholarship is one of Gamma Phi Beta's core values. Majors and minors ranging from Architecture to English to Biotechnology to Agriculture all represent the Delta Theta chapter’s wide spectrum of interests, and the chapter continuously encourages and assists its members to reach their academic goals. On any given day of the week, sisters can be found with one another in the library, University Union, or even each other’s living rooms studying for an upcoming exam or preparing a term paper or presentation. And because members are relentless in motivating one another to settle for nothing short of success, Gamma Phi Betas learn that hard work pays off as their efforts in the classroom will carry them off to achieve their future endeavors.

    Study Hours

The Gamma Phi Beta Study Hours Program is designed to help all of our members keep up with their studies every week. All girls are encouraged to study for at least four proctored hours a week.

Through instating this program, the Delta Theta chapter of Gamma Phi Beta has significantly raised its average GPA and currently has the highest house average of all the Panhellenic sororities on the Cal Poly campus.

    Scholarship Banquet

During Spring Quarter 2009, Gamma Phi Beta held its second annual Scholarship Banquet. Every sister who had achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher was invited to attend and allowed to invite a professor to attend as well. The goal of this event is to celebrate our sisters' academic achievements, enlighten our professors about the emphasis Gamma Phi Beta places on learning and academic excellence, and honor professors who are the key to our progress. The banquet went off without a hitch and the members of the Delta Theta Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta look forward to the next one to follow.

  • Quarterly Scholastic Awards

Academic accomplishments are rewarded with fun prizes for those members who achieve excellence. These prizes are given for the overall highest GPA in the chapter each quarter, for those members whose GPA has positively increased the most in the chapter each quarter, and to those members who perform well on projects, exams, and papers.

    Panhellenic Association Scholarships

Cal Poly's Panhellenic Association had four available scholarships for $500.00 each available during Spring Quarter. The Panhellenic Association hopes to be putting out more scholarships in the upcoming quarters, and the Panhellenic Academic Council is looking forward to the next round of applicants so that the amazing women in the Greek Community can be awarded for their achievements.

Gamma Phi Beta encourages its members to apply for these scholarships as they are a great opportunity only available to the women who are members of Cal Poly's Panhellenic sororities. Congratulations to Kristina Benvenuto for being the recipient of this award in 2011 and to Lauren Babek for winning the award in 2009!
